Iraq Stops Issuing Visa-on-Arrival for Several Countries

Sunday, Mar 16, 2025

The Iraqi Ministry of Interior has announced a major change to its visa policy, halting the issuance of visas on arrival for nationals of several countries, effective from March 1, 2025.

The affected countries are as follows:

  • Australia
  • China
  • Japan
  • New Zealand
  • Russia
  • South Korea
  • Switzerland
  • The United Kingdom
  • The United States of America
  • European Union countries

The previously held practice of issuing direct entry visas has been suspended and instead, citizens of the aforementioned countries must obtain an electronic entry visa before they travel to Iraq.

All travellers should secure their electronic visas before their departure as the airlines will not board passengers without a valid visa.
